School Trails is a free online platform for academic opportunity and achievement. It aims to provide a database of internships, scholarships, and other academic opportunities for students to gain knowledge and real-world experience outside of the classroom. By attaining these opportunities, students can set themselves up to succeed through high school, college, and beyond.
School Trails started as a project at Carnegie Mellon University at the Summer Academy for Math and Science. A group of rising high school juniors wanted to find a way to give back to their community by providing others with the same opportunities they were receiving by attending the Summer Academy for Math and Science. The students came up with "A Helping Hand," a platform for students to find different academic opportunities based on their interests, location, cost, and other factors.
After the summer program ended, one student took over and rebranded the platform under the name "School Trails." Now, School Trails is a platform and database for students, their counselors, and their parents to find different summer and academic programs, internships, and scholarships to promote academic achievement.
